Community Hub

Social, Economic and Environmental

  • 70% Target of total project spend to be paid to Welsh-based SMEs
  • £10,000 Sponsorship for local projects within the regions that we work
  • 60% Average of project workforce to reside within Wales

The aim of our Community Hub is to adopt the principles of the Welsh Government Well-being of Future Generations Act 2015 to fully support and improve sustainability across Wales and within the communities in which we work.

Here are just some of the activities within the hub:

  • Buying locally and supporting SMEs maintains a sustainable local economy. For every project, 100% of the spend is contracted to SMEs, with over 60% spent with Welsh-based SMEs. This will maximise the retention of the local pound and ensure high skills retention within the region.
  • Through engaging with a local supply chain, we safeguard the local workforce and reduce distances that they travel to site (reducing CO2 emissions).
  • We liaise with local third-sector organisations to identify volunteering opportunities within the project communities. We work with our supply-chain partners and other third-sector organisations across Wales to identify opportunities to raise awareness of specific volunteering opportunities and good causes.
  • Every year our employees are offered volunteering opportunities, which are advertised internally on our intranet and enable them to support causes which are important to them.  Volunteering also provides an opportunity for local neighbours, staff, students/pupils to engage with us , to ask questions in person and have face to face dialogue. We believe that our presence also helps promote construction industry careers. As a local firm these events are within our own communities, giving our own staff an additional incentive to participate.
  • Our Community Hub enables us to provide income and support for local youths or community groups. Our approach builds on our existing links with local councils and community and support agencies involved in community benefit initiatives. This provides immediate and effective solutions that are precisely tailored to groups’ needs.
  • Our approach to sustainability is fully aligned to meet BREEAM Sustainability themes and targets on all projects to include monitoring site energy usage, target % waste diverted from landfill, minimising diesel/petrol powered equipment usage, minimum 25% recycled content per project, using check-list of recycled products including PFA and/or recycled aggregate concrete/blocks and others.
